fluxed earth
Fluxed earth is the collaborative ceramics practice of Rye Senjen and Kirstie Murdoch, based on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Castlemaine, Victoria.
We are intrigued by the persistence of ancient ceramic forms and their recurrence accross time and cultures. Our work explores elements of some classic ceramic forms using stoneware clay with high fired glazes influenced by Japanese, Chinese and Korean ceramic traditions.
Our current focus is on vases with highly textured surfaces referencing insect activity and fungal and plant growth patterns, and sculptural works reflecting on ancient protectors and ritual vessels.
